HERMANN ALBERT

Hymn to Nude

For its next exhibition, Agnès Monplaisir Gallery will present a series of tempera paintings by the German artist Hermann Albert.

Using a monumental treatment of the subjects he paints (female portraits, animals, landscapes) Albert analyses the corporeal existence of the bodies that vigorously inhabit the canvas, thus putting emphasis on the timeless beauty that emerges. This plastic force is far from being simply academic. It originates instead from a deep innate aspiration. It’s the classical harmony that indeed seduces Albert, which he praises with a heartily personal anti avant-garde posture.

Infused by the pictorial tradition of his welcome land, his works embrace the art of Giotto, Piero della Francesca and Masaccio, as well as the “metaphysical” painting of Giorgio de Chirico.
