Gold is often regarded in tradition as the most precious of all metals, it is even considered as the perfect metal, and without any doubt one of the most desired. So it comes with no surprise, that across history and until the present day, gold it’s been an essential part of any artistic creation, integrating it as a first choice material. Many are the artists represented by Galerie Agnès Monplaisir, that in one way or another, throughout their careers or occasionally, explore the qualities and properties inherent to this metal.
The works presented in this exhibition make full use of gold as the raw material, and thanks to their glare and creativity they offer us all the universe of ideas revolving around this precious metal. In the textile works of the Colombian artist Olga de Amaral, gold is a loyal element that refers to the ancient traditions of South America. In the practice of the Brazilian artist Marcos Coelho Benjamim, native of Minas Gerais, gold comes as a symbiosis with the zinc blades covering their geometric panels. In the paintings of the French duo Todd & Fitch, the metal naturally echoes their light and abstract devices. And this is only to give some examples.
